From the Winona Daily News:
Help Gil keep his promise
By Steve Schild / Winona
Which Gil Gutknecht should voters believe: The one who for three years supported every aspect of George W. Bush’s unwinnable war in Iraq or the one who weighed in a couple of days ago with the news flash that conditions in Baghdad are a “serious problem?”
The Gutknecht whose Web site says, “We cannot afford to pass along our debt to future generations,” or the one who voted for estate tax legislation that will benefit fewer than one percent of Americans but cost more than $55 billion annually while our deficit is one of the largest ever?
The Gutknecht who in ’94 supported term limits or the one who wants to keep the seat he’s held for 12 years?
I heard Tim Walz speak the other night, and his message, unlike Gutknecht’s, is consistent and clear: Provide universal health care. Support public education. Protect Social Security. Put an end to Halliburton-style war profiteering. Get our troops out of Bush’s idiotic war in Iraq.
I’m going to do my part to give Gil Gutknecht his wish on term limits. I’m going to vote for Tim Walz.
And
Progressive values

I appreciate Mr. Conway’s letter of July 19 welcoming Al Franken to Winona.
Speaking at WSU before a cheering crowd of nearly 900 people Tuesday night, Franken discussed the biblical values that direct us to be just, to be good, and to have compassion for the poor.
Franken’s talk was punctuated dozens of times by hearty applause, ending with a standing ovation. Afterwards, hundreds stood in line to have him sign their books.
Tim Walz, DFL candidate for Congress speaking at the same event, also had the crowd on its feet. Walz is an Army National Guard veteran of 24 years, and his campaign has created energy and excitement across southern Minnesota with its message of bringing positive change to Washington, D.C. As for Mr. Conway’s concern about Air America’s future, he need not worry. Al Franken’s radio show, for instance, consistently beats Bill O’Reilly among 25-54 year olds in New York.
Air America is acquiring new affiliates all the time—— adding Sheridan, Wyo., just this week — and its Internet stream is one of the most popular available. Air America reaches every corner of the country on XM Satellite Radio, and you can also find it at www.airamerica.com.
