Last week, Bluestem Prairie ran a Mankato Free Press letter by Ryan Marti, one of Tim Walz's former students, football players, and soldiers. Marti sent the letter of support for his mentor from Iraq, where he is deployed with his National Guard unit.
Ryan Marti once more makes the news in Minnesota. The New Ulm Journal reports:
A Minnesota National Guard soldier with New Ulm roots stole a page out of a storybook Saturday, proposing to his girlfriend from Iraq in front of more than 45,000 Metrodome fans at the Minnesota Twins game.Sgt. Adam Marti, of Mankato, the grandson of Eleanor Marti of New Ulm, proposed to his girlfriend, Heather Rock of Lake Crystal.
Rock said “yes” to Marti’s proposal over a cell phone that was broadcast via satellite on the Metrodome Jumbotron screen.
“Oh, my God,” said Rock when she first saw Marti and his brother Ryan on the huge screen in the middle of the fifth inning.
“Yes, I will marry you. You got me,” Rock replied to his proposal.
Congratulations to the Marti and Rock families.
