WALZ TO AG COMMITTEE
At the Minnesota Farmers Union Convention in November, Collin Peterson told those attending the FARMPAC reception that he wanted walz on the ag committee. The new chair got his wish. The Examiner reports:
Incoming Reps. Tim Walz and Keith Ellison, both Minnesota Democrats, got their first committee assignments on Tuesday.
Walz was selected to sit on the House Agriculture Committee, while Ellison was named to the Financial Services Committee.
"I am honored to serve on this prestigious committee with my good friend and colleague Collin Peterson," Walz said in a statement. "Agriculture is an essential part of the Minnesota economy and there are great strides to be made with the 2007 farm bill."
Peterson, D-Minn., will chair the Agriculture Committee next year. . . .
Joe Bodell reflects on the appointment at the Minnesota Monitor.
We're happy Peterson brought Pelosi to Farmfest this summer; she gets it about renewable enrgy. The Strib reported at the time (sorry no link):
Collin Peterson remembers when he invited Nancy Pelosi to Farmfest in August: Republican friends told him he was nuts to bring her to his conservative rural district in northwestern Minnesota.
She wore cowboy boots and ate pork chops on a stick. “She was a big hit,” said Peterson, a Democrat from the Red River Valley.
OLLIE OX UPDATE: The Hill mentions Walz's appointment:
Rep.-elect Tim Walz (D-Minn.) will serve on the Agriculture Committee. He is guaranteed to play a role in rewriting the farm bill, which must be reauthorized next year.
RUTH JOHNSON PIC AT SHIFTING PIXEL
Joe Lencioni has a terrific photo of Rep. Ruth Johnson up at Shifting Pixel. Ruth, with her red boots and engaging wit, has long been a favorite. She was working the phone banks in Mankato on election day. Lencioni writes:
Ruth Johnson was the state representative for Minnesota’s district 23a, soon to be replaced by Terry Morrow. I had never met her before or seen her speak, but when she was here with Al Franken and Tim Walz rallying for the election, she had quite a memorable personality. She was excited and energized. I tried to capture some of that energy and unique personality in today’s shot. I hope you like it.
