The Post Bulletin has more about Tim Walz's appearance on "It's Your Call," hosted by former representative Tim Penny. Walz may at some point move ahead with his own show:
What is it with 1st District congressmen and the radio?
Rep. Tim Walz debuted Friday on former Rep. Tim Penny's Waseca radio show, in what Walz's spokeswoman said will be a once-a-month appearance on the show hosted by Penny, who represented this region for six terms in Congress from 1982 to 1995.
It was Walz's opponent last fall, six-term Rep. Gil Gutknecht, who took to the airwaves every Friday morning on a network across the 1st District for his show "Conversations with the Congressman."
Penny's show is called "It's Your Call."
Walz could move ahead with his own show at some point, said Walz's spokeswoman Meredith Salsbery. She said they are looking at a number of radio proposals as well, but no decisions have been made about a show format.
After Penny's show started, Lynn Ketelson, the station owner, told the Mankato Free Press newspaper that the show is being considered for a larger statewide audience on the Linder stations.
Walz will be a regular guest on Penny's radio show from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. on the last Friday of each month. The first broadcast paired the men in the Waseca studio, but Salsbery says congressional work schedules likely will require Walz to phone in on some shows.
Penny's show airs from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Fridays on KOWZ radio (AM 1170). It cannot be heard in Rochester, but Salsbery says its airwaves reach a region approximately from Mankato to Owatonna and Albert Lea to Northfield.
