Last night, Harriet the Bald Eagle and National Eagle Center program director Marybeth Garrigan appeared on the Colbert Report. Today, Harriet met with Senators and visited the office of her U.S. Representative, Tim Walz.
Eagles are being removed from the endangered species list after after successful conservation efforts brought the bird back from the brink.
The federal Fish and Wildlife Service estimates that over 1300 pairs of eagles are nesting in Minnesota. In the First Congressional District, birders frequently see the national bird along the Mississippi and Minnesota Rivers, although the bird nests throughout the area.
