[Update]: The Rochester Post Bulletin runs the full AP story. Check it out. [/update]
We have to look to North Dakota's media to read that Candidates for Congress line up in MN's 1st, 2nd, 6th Districts ... Yes, the AP reports that a candidate is poised to challenge Kline in the 2nd, and Bob Olson has joined Bob Hill in the race for the DFL endorsement in the 6th.
So far, the Star Tribune has not been able to write about Hill or the $100,000 he has raised so far in the cycle, nor is there a whisper about a rival for Kline. But the First? Bring on every micro-candidate.
The Strib did mention Steve Sarvi in a July 10th story, but didn't mention his possible plans to run for office:
Victoria's city administrator will return from duty in Iraq late this month.
Steve Sarvi, a member of the Minnesota National Guard, has served abroad for almost two years. He had to leave behind his family, his job in Victoria and his work as Watertown mayor in October 2005.
Upon hearing that he would be deployed, Sarvi decided to resign as mayor, but upon his return, he will resume his duties as city administrator.
David Urbia has worked as interim city administrator while Sarvi has been gone. He said Sarvi will return to his job Sept. 4.
Urbia is preparing to update Sarvi on two years' worth of city news. That includes the election of a new mayor, work on updating the city's comprehensive plan, and downtown redevelopment.
While Sarvi was on duty, the city of Victoria paid him the difference between his Guard pay and his city salary.
"It's unbelievable. It's tough to leave, but then you worry about how you are going to make it financially. You always do," he said in a September 2005 article. "It's a very special thing they have done."
This has been Sarvi's third deployment since Sept. 11, 2001. His unit was deployed to Iraq in March 2006.
Details, details.
Update: Inside Minnesota Politics
talks more about Sarvi's potential run, as well as the very real Bronze
Star he was awarded for helping to rebuild local governments in Iraq. Those nice guys at IDHA (who now live in the Second now that they're no longer pesky college students in Winona) add to the picture, too.
