KEYC-12 reports on Tim Walz's Saturday office hours:
Congressman Tim Walz opened his district office doors today. From noon to two this afternoon, Walz invited constituents to his Mankato office to share their opinions and concerns. Walz believes it's important to remain accessible and hopes these meetings allow members of the community to re-engage. Congressman Tim Walz says, ''They can bring up a concern they have about Congress in general. They can bring up a personal issue they're having maybe it's social security or VA and they get to speak with me directly. My staff is here to get moving on it and then we process whatever they want. Just a way to reconnect them. This is their office and we want them in it.'' The Congressman hopes to hold these open door meetings weekly.
It's interesting what's considered newsworthy in Greater Minnesota versus the Twin Cities. In Greater Minnesota, the media reports on the many public meetings and listening sessions Walz and his hard-working staff have organized. At last count, there have been at least 24 such events, and that doesn't include the grocery store visits or office hours.
Meanwhile, who does the state's largest circulation newspaper deem worthy of its twice yearly Minnesota Profile? A representative who keeps "a low profile." Oh, but such kewl clothes. Where's Avista with its reporter's buyout package when we need it?
We'll take the rural values celebrating hard work any day.
