The Christmas Bird Counts aren't political news, but we're birders, so here you go.
From the Houston County News:
A Christmas bird count in the Whitewater River Valley will be Tuesday, Jan, 1. You are invited to explore the area’s winter wonderland on foot for short walks and/or by car to document wintering birds. You do not need experience with birding to participate. Most of the count takes place in the Whitewater Wildlife Management Area, outside the park.
Meet at the Whitewater Valley Visitor Center at 7:30 am. With a fire in the wood stove, hot beverages and homemade treats will be provided. Also, bird feeders at the visitor center will be full of seeds.
To sign up for the bird count, call the park, weekdays, at 507-932-3007, Ext. 0. This activity is free, but a park permit is required. Daily permit fee is $5, annual $25.
