Over at I Don't Hate America, Jason notes that Tim Walz has endorsed Steve Sarvi in his bid to unseat Congressman John Kline. The endorsement note of support* is here on Sarvi's web site. Jason observes:
Steve Sarvi is an Iraq war veteran and has given 19 years of military service. His fresh perspectives, especially on the war on terror, will hopefully move voters in a traditionally red district. We saw Walz do it in 2006 and we can bet Sarvi will put up a good fight as well.
Should Sarvi get the party's nomination--as is likely--this should will be an interesting competition. Kline, too, is a veteran who served honorably. Burnsville Democrat [Dan[ Powers ended his bid to unseat Kline and has also endorsed Sarvi. Peter Idusogie is also seeking the DFL endorsement in the Second.
Looking at the Second, Minnesota Central asks Will Kline ultimately support Ramstad and Wellstone’s Legacy ? The Paul Wellstone Mental Health and Addiction Equity Act of 2007 ( H.R. 1424 ) looks like it will fnally get tot he floor of the U. S. House.
The Minnesota Monitor's Andy Birkey looks at the Children's Defense Fund Action Council (CDFAC) scorecard for Minnesota's congressional delegation in How do Minnesota reps rank on children's welfare?:
The Children's Defense Fund Action Council ranked several of Minnesota's Congress members as "best for children" with 100 percent ratings: Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., and Democratic Reps. Keith Ellison, Tim Walz and Collin Peterson.
Two were named the "worst for children" with 20 percent ratings: Republican Reps. John Kline and Michele Bachmann.
Republican Sen. Norm Coleman scored 80 percent and fellow Republican Rep. Jim Ramstad scored 70 percent.
DFL Reps. Betty McCollum and James Oberstar scored 90 percent and 70 percent, respectively, due to absences on key CDF votes.
The CDFAC is the political arm of the Children's Defense Fund.
*The Walz campaign informed us that while Tim Walz supplied a supportive note for the Sarvi campaign, he has not officially endorsed Sarvi.
