KXMC News has posted an Associated Press article about fundraising in the First, Walz leads fundraising in Minnesota's 1st Congressional District:
ST. PAUL (AP) Republican challengers in Minnesota's 1st Congressional District trail Representative Tim Walz in fundraising.
Mayo Clinic doctor Brian Davis, who has the Republican Party endorsement, raised $59,000 [correction: actually around $34,500. with $24,000 loaned by the doctor to his campaign on 3/31] for the first quarter. That's compared to $16,000 for state Senator Dick Day. [Update: Davis's individual contributions run slightly behind Day's]
The two will face each other in a primary that will decide who will challenge Walz.Davis picked up an endorsement today from Republican Representative John Kline.
The article doesn't note the cash-in-hand for any candidate. Walz has just over $1 million in the bank, while Day's nest egg contains $72186.18. Davis's report has yet to surface among the electronic filings at the FEC, though he told the Mankato Free Press earlier that he would have about $50,000 in the bank.
As for the endorsement by John Kline: no surprise there. Kline had been serving as Davis's mentor, the Republican candidate told the Rochester Post Bulletin.
More at WCCO. It's interesting that WCCO makes Bachmann's cash-on-hand the star item in the article, since she and Walz have nearly identical bank balances--while El Tinklenberg has twice as much on hand as Davis.
