We'll have more as the day goes on about Congressman Walz' victory yesterday, but the one fact about the win that still leaves us stunned is that Walz and his team captured every county in Southern Minnesota. Even those considered rock-ribbed Republican.
Brown.
Martin.
Rock.
Pipestone.
Jackson.
Steele.
Dodge.
The Walz team ran a wonderful campaign under the leadership of Chris Schmitter, a genial young man from Rochester, with depth and breadth in every area.
And the political head wind was what it was.
However, we think that one factor that contributed to the overwhelming stamp of approval voters handed Walz last night had its origins in Walz's style of policy-making and service. All those listening sessions on policy, from ag issues to energy and health care. A congressional staff praised by conservative LTE writers for their diligence and respect.
It isn't a partisan thing, but an approach that sits comfortably with the core values shared by many in the district.
More later as we get to a faster internet connection.
It was certainly a sweeping victory. By my count, Rep. Walz lost only 71 precincts out of 749.
