While the Independence Party will be endorsing a candidate on December 30 (most likely Waseca mayor Roy Srp), tonight both the DFL and GOP senate district activist will convene in Owatonna to endorse a candidate.
Both the GOP and DFL will meet at the Elks Club--in Faribault and Owatonna, respectively-- tonight for endorse candidates. The GOP convention begins at 6 p.m., while the Democrats convene at 6:30 p.m.
According to the local DFL committee's Facebook page, the meeting is open to the public. However, only those allowed under the party unit's rules will be able to vote on the endorsement, most likely delegates elected at the last district convention.
The Steele County GOP's blog doesn't say whether or not the Republican endorsing convention is open to the public. Delegates elected at the 2008 convention in February will cast ballots.
So far, three candidates (Srp and two Republicans) have registered committees with the Campaign Finance Board. So far, only Srp and Republican Del Voegele have filed for office. Filing with the Secretary of State closes tomorrow at 5 p.m.
DFL candidate Jason Engbrecht is busy fundraising (candidates have 10 days in which to register with the campaign finance board after reaching a small threshold). The ask, via Engbrecht's Facebook group:
Jason Engbrecht's Senate Campaign went into high gear today [December 26]! Jason met with DFLers in Waseca and Faribault in the morning and spent the afternoon calling delegates to Monday's endorsing convention in Owatonna. You can help make sure that Jason's message reaches all of the citizens of the 26th District by helping with phone calls to voters, participating with literature drops, or by contributing to his campaign fund.
To qualify for pubilc financing, Jason must raise $3000 in contributions of $50 or less from Minnesota donors--that's 60 donations of $50 or 120 donations of $25...you get the picture. A donation of any amount helps Jason get to that point sooner, and lets him focus more on getting out the vote during this short election cycle so he can serve the 26th District more effectively in the Senate!
The fastest way to get your contribution working on behalf of Jason's campaign is to visit his website at http://www.jason4senate.org where you can click on the "Contribute" link and make a contribution online. While you are there, you can read more about Jason's biography, and his positions on issues such as the economy, education, and health care.Thank you for your support of Jason's candidacy, and thank you for doing what you can to help Jason qualify for public financing!
