I traveled to Owatonna yesterday to meet with friends in the Steele County DFL and Minnesota Farmers Union, and had a chance to chat with State Representative Patti Fritz, 26B. Fritz, a licensed practical nurse and SEIU member, first won her seat on her second try in 2004. Like Kory Kath, who now holds the 26A seat on the Owatonna-Waseca side of the senate district, Fritz is emblematic of DFL gains on the I-35 corridor south of the Twin Cities suburbs.
Fritz shared that she would not be seeking the DFL endorsement for the upcoming special election.
Will Kath run for the open senate seat? The Senate District 26 DFL recruitment committee is being remarkably tight lipped about its candidate search, but suggested that news will be forthcoming by next week.
Bluestem Prairie looked at the Republican interest in the seat yesterday in Day retires from state senate; SD26 voters will select new leader in special election.
