Today's Owatonna People's Press reports that three more Republicans in addition to Waseca's Mike Parry and Owatonna Mayor Tom Kuntz have entered the race for their party's endorsement in the SD26 special election:
As it turns out, Republicans in the region will have two Owatonna contenders to choose from. Ted Boosalis, the former owner of Costa’s Chocolates, is hoping to win the Republican endorsement. . . .
Two Republicans from Faribault also hope to win Day’s seat in this whirlwind race. One is Faribault City Council member Steven Underdahl, who owns and operates a contracting company, Procon Inc. . . .The fourth Republican to declare candidacy on Friday was Teri Menard, a businesswoman in Faribault. Menard could not be reached for comment Friday.
The local Republicans will hold their endorsing convention on Dec. 28 at the Elks Lodge in Faribault, one day before the filings period closes on Dec. 29. The paper doesn't report whether each of the declared candidates will abide by the endorsement.
Boosalis's bid is a change of plans for the former candy store owner. At the time of the store's sale in September, the Owatonna People's Press reported:
After the apprenticeship ends, Ted and his wife, Elaine, probably will not stay in Owatonna. They are currently seeking new jobs and could land in the Twin Cities.
Boosalis is a frequent contributor in the OPP's reader comment section under the handle, pookah. Go look for yourself.
I spoke with SD 26 DFL chair Karl Knudsen, who said he was in the final stages of setting a date for the DFL endorsing convention, and that local DFLers are continuing to talk to potential candidates. He would not comment on those interested in running.
