As we return to another episode of Emo Senator, Southern Minnesota's most watched telenovela, fans will see Mike Parry, the Belle of Waseca county, back from his brief flirtation with Hollywood to defend the honor of the Minnesota Senate in the person of its President, Senator Michelle Fischbach (R-MCCL).
Once more, Emo Senator's plot twist takes a cue from the discourse of professional wrestling: it's the Rumble Under the Rotunda!
MPR's Tom Scheck reports in Senate GOP says lawsuit is delaying Michel ethics complaint:
Fischbach declined comment and was quickly ushered away from reporters by Sen. Mike Parry, R-Waseca. Parry, a candidate for Congress in Minnesota's 1st District, also tried to close a door in reporters' faces as they were trying to question Fischbach. He relented after he was reminded that he was in a public office.
The reports on the Rumble continue over at the Star Tribune's Hot Dish blog, where Rachel Stassen Berger posts in No clarity on when Senate ethics committee may meet again:
After the Senate session, when Fischbach was off the floor, Fischbach was hustled away from reporters waiting for further clarity.
"I'm meeting with a constituent for a few minutes and I won't be making any comment," she said as she left the Senate floor.
Sen. Mike Parry, R-Waseca, then took her by the arm and began walking away from the reporters.
A reporter asked Parry if he was pulling her away from the reporters. Parry responded that he had a question for her. He then hustled her into an office and worked to close the door as reporters tried to follow. A reporter told Parry it was a public office and he relented, then he, Fischbach and a constituent went into a back office.
Fischbach was heard asking Parry if he "had a real question" and then the door closed so that reporters could hear no more. A few minutes later she had left.
Slick move, maybe. But the press continued to pile on! In the morning take, Blois Olson notes:
TENSION: Yesterday via Twitter from MPR’s Tom Scheck (@tomscheck) in 3 tweets: “Senate President Michelle Fischbach runs from reporters asking about Michel Ethics investigation…GOP Sen. Mike Parry tried to usher Fischbach from reporters and attempted to slam door in reporter's faces…Parry, a candidate for Congress, relented after told it was a public office (and my foot stopped him from closing the door).”
Will the ethics complaint -- triggered by Michel's conflicted response to news that former Senate Majority Leader Michael Brodkorb, at the time the de facto manager of Mike Parry's congressional campaign--ever be resolved? Will our fey hero slam the door in more reporters' faces as he flounces away from the press gaggle?
Are rumors true that former state Representative Allen Quist is ahead in the CD1 delegate count?
Tune in for the next exciting episode!
