Former St. Cloud School Board member Dorsher is now the only declared DFL candidate in the district; she filed for office today with the Secretary of State's office.
Mark Sommerhauser reports in DFL settles it: Dorsher will run for Gottwalt seat at the St. Cloud Times:
Two DFLers who considered running to succeed recently resigned state Rep. Steve Gottwalt say they’ve reached accord: Joanne Dorsher is running for the seat, and Jerry McCarter is not. . . .. . .McCarter said he and Dorsher spent the last week talking before agreeing on who would run. McCarter said he’s not aware of another DFLer running in 14A.
“I’m a good candidate; she’s a good candidate,” he said. “We jointly came to the conclusion that this makes the most sense.
“I am out, and I’m supporting her 100 percent.”
Running against incumbent Steve Gottwalt in 2008 in the old 15A house district, Dorsher received 46.23 percent of the vote, with Gottwalt winning with 53.60 percent.
Sommerhauser also reports about the field of Republican candidates in HD 14A:
Republicans who’ve told the Times they’re running for the seat are Theis, a St. Cloud business owner, Iraq War veteran Scott MacHardy and former St. Cloud city councilman John Severson. Theis and a fourth Republican, Parmele, filed for the seat Thursday, according to the Minnesota Secretary of State’s website. Candidates have until Tuesday to file and until Wednesday to withdraw.
According to the Minnesota Secretary of State's webpage for the special elections, James Parmele withdrew his name today, while at 2:30 p.m, Theis, MacHardy, and Severson have filed for office.
Tama Thies has registered her committee with the Minnesota Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board.
The Republicans will convene their endorsing convention tomorrow at North Junior High School.
Rep. Steve Gottwalt's resignation to take a lobbying job triggered next month's special election for the open seat in the Republican-leaning district.
