The Marine Times reports on theWalz win in Veterans march to midterm wins:
Also winning was Tim Walz, a retired Army National Guard command sergeant major who defeated Rep. Gil Gutknecht, a six-term incumbent, and will represent a southern Minnesota district. Gutknecht’s support for the Bush administration’s Iraq policy was an issue in the campaign with Walz, who enlisted at the age of 17 and served 24 years in the Guard, saying it was time to elect someone who wouldn’t rubber-stamp a flawed policy.
“There is no simple solution, but we can be assured that the answer is not to continue the current course of action without an exit plan,” said Walz, whose unit was mobilized and deployed to Europe in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
The story is told in the student newspaper at Chadron State in Chadron State graduate elected to Minn. Congressional post.
