Update: Apparently, Stephen Colbert believes that having Walz in the segment, "In Your Face, Nancy Pelosi" counts for the First's inclusion as a district that has been covered by "Know Your District." It shows up on the show's map as a district that's been known.
Looks as if Tim Walz's remarks to the Post Bulletin about Stephen Colbert's interest in the Fighting First have stirred the blogosphere's dust up on this barely-white Christmas weekend:
. . .You mentioned that Stephen Colbert of Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report" has been after you to be on the "Your District" segment. Are you going to do it?
Nah. It was sort of funny to consider. If it was just me, I might try. I mean, when you're me, you have to laugh at me. But I don't want it to be poking fun at the district. I don't want people laughing at our district, and that's some of what that segment is.
You'd mentioned that Colbert tried to call you out with some humor?
Yes. We were at Harvard for some sessions after the election, and he was talking to our group. My face flashes on the screen, and he says 'Representative-elect Walz, you represent a district that makes Spam. You have a moral obligation to explain this to the country.'
Guyermo, a diarist at DailyKos, agrees with Colbert:
Indeed, Mr. Walz, you do. I've been having to explain this to everyone I meet who finds out I grew up near Austin, MN.
Those posting in the diary's comment section riff on the combination of Spam and Mayo.
The No-Fact Zone chimes in as well.
Will the fact that the Colbert Report is on Christmas hiatus save Tim Walz from the pundit's wagging finger? Will Walz be placed on notice? Stay tuned.
