The Windom paper chatted with state senator Jim Vickerman about serving as chair of the state senate ag committee:
Vickerman emphasized partnerships between the state and farmers to fuel a diversified rural economy, including subsidized loans and other incentives to encourage development of new rural industries.
"I have been championing ethanol and other alternative agricultural products since long before they were popular," Vickerman said. "As committee chair, I will continue to support development of innovative rural industries, including biodiesel and wind energy."
Vickerman is also pleased with ag committee assignments in Washington:
In the wake of Minnesota Congressman Colin Peterson's recent appointment as chair of the House of Representatives' Agriculture Committee, Vickerman voiced hopes of a close working relationship with the federal government on agricultural development in Minnesota.
"It is very good news for the State of Minnesota and our district in particular to have one of our own representing us as Agriculture chair," said Vickerman. "Given our state's history of leadership in agriculture, it is fitting that Rep. Peterson was chosen as a leader in the field."
We understand that Tim Walz will be serving on Representative Peterson's ag commitee as well.
