The Mankato Free Press's editorial board gives Representative Tim Walz a boost:
Thumbs up
To 1st District Congressman Tim Walz for having the guts to take political risks before he ever sat down for the first time in the House chamber.
Walz told The Associated Press he’s going to scrutinize the $100 billion request the Bush administration has made to continue fighting the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Walz acknowledged the political opponents will use any potential opposition to this spending against him in a re-election bid. He acknowledged the smear campaigners may likely try to paint him as “not supporting the troops.”
But as Walz said, “I think I was sent here with a message to ask the questions about Iraq. Obviously that’s Congress’ main role.”
It’s refreshing to see the so called “inexperienced” politician in Walz take political risks longtime veterans of politics are afraid to take. Maybe that’s why he’s there in the first place.
