To paraphrase the late, great country songwriter Steve Goodman, they don't have to call her darling, darling, in the latest editorial in the Red Wing Republican Eagle, 28B gets serious:
Voters finalized the House 28B special election slate Tuesday in decisive fashion. By 1,050-147, the DFL Party faithful made clear who is their best candidate: Linda Pfeilsticker.
She won the endorsement on the first ballot. She took the primary with 86 percent of the vote. She emerged as a force in her first political endeavor — and in a few short weeks.
Now it’s crunch time. The Wabasha County native and Winona teacher faces Steve Drazkowski, also of Wabasha. She portrays herself as a supporter of the Democrats' liberal agenda, while Drazkowski stands as a staunch conservative.
Go read the rest. The editorial tells readers to toss the mail from party bosses and talk to the candidates themselves. Excellent advice.
Elsewhere on the op-ed page, a supporter writes:
. . .But when we heard the candidates and they later responded to questions, it was clear there was one outstanding candidate: Linda Pfeilsticker.
She's a poised 35-year-old teacher, enthusiastic, bright, and gave a great introductory speech (without notes, demonstrating a lively sense of humor). She has a degree in political science from St. Catherine's and a master's degree from St. Mary's, and she has returned to live near the family farm in Wabasha.
A social studies teacher in Winona, she seems calm, pragmatic, and intelligent in her approach to politics. She's pro-union, and pro-farmer, and understands issues around education. . . .
Still, it's hard to read the Red Wing paper and not think of Stephen Colbert, and Stephen Jr.
Facebook v. Facebook part 2
Linda Pfeilsticker's campaign Facebook group now has 200 members. Ten more, and the group is tied with the Minnesota College Republicans; twenty-nine more, and the group will be as large as the official Students for Norm Coleman group.
Not bad for a candidate in a state house special election, especially when compared to statewide groups.
