Luverne, Minnesota, is one of four communities at the center of Ken Burns' new documentary, "The War.", the Rock County Star Herald reports:
The 14-hour World War II documentary, produced by American filmmakers Ken Burns and Lynn Novick, will air on PBS stations worldwide Sept. 23.
The highly anticipated film focuses on the war from the perspective of four "quintessentially American" towns. They are Luverne, Minn.; Sacramento, Calif.; Mobile, Ala.; and Waterbury, Conn.
According to PBS.org, "These four communities stand in for - and could represent - any town in the United States that went through the war's four devastating years.
"The series explores the most intimate human dimensions of the greatest cataclysm in history - a worldwide catastrophe that touched the lives of every family on every street in every town in America - and demonstrates that in extraordinary times, there are no ordinary lives."
The film is being compared to "Roots" in terms of historical significance to American audiences.
