More letters to the editor in the Winona Daily News. Rose Gurley responds to the letter about the DFL candidate's character in Pfeilsticker's moral and rural values:
I have strongly supported Linda Pfeilsticker’s campaign from the beginning. But I must say, John and Suzanne Hampe’s letter (“Candidate demonstrates moral and rural values”) only deepened my support and strengthened my conviction that she is exactly the kind of leader we need at this time.
It is one thing to espouse this or that set of beliefs or values during a campaign. It is quite another to have lived those values and beliefs for an entire lifetime. The Hampes have seen Linda, in their words, “walk the walk of strong moral, community and rural values” her entire life, from childhood on.
The Hampes also mentioned that Linda had donated bone marrow to an anonymous recipient last year. This, to me, epitomizes the qualities I look for in leaders. Linda went through a medical process, at no small risk to herself, to help someone else — someone from whom she would never be able to receive thanks.
This was an unselfish act. And I have not heard Linda bragging about it or highlighting it for competitive advantage, which many others would have done. So, I thank the Hampes for sharing with us this example of Linda’s act of selflessness.
I sincerely encourage all voters in District 28B to vote for Linda Pfeilsticker for the House of Representatives in the special election Aug. 7.
Mike Schuth finds Drazkowski Web site offensive.
Over at the Red Wing Republican Eagle, Bonnie and Bill McMillan believe Pfeilsticker is A sensible choice.
In the Rochester Post Bulletin, we're reading letters published elsewhere: Pfeilsticker will be a new voice and Pfeilsticker lives by example. An Election editor's note explains why.
Workday Minnesota reports Labor makes push to claim Sviggum's House seat:
Organized labor is making a push to elect a union-backed candidate to replace Steve Sviggum. Steve Sviggum's appointment to head the Department of Labor and Industry creates a vacancy in Minnesota House District 28B. Voters will go to the polls to fill that vacancy via a special election Aug. 7.
Two candidates emerged from primary voting July 24, including the Southeast Minnesota Area Labor Council's endorsed candidate, DFLer Linda Pfeilsticker. She will oppose Steve Drazkowski, a Republican.
The Southeast Minnesota ALC worked hard to turn out overwhelming support for Pfeilsticker, a social studies teacher from Winona and a union member, during the primary, but the general election push continues. To volunteer, contact Liz McLoone, the ALC's political organizer, at [email protected].
