Looking at the online response to Walz's FISA vote, we came across Minnesota First, a blog that is less than a week old. We wrote Apollo, the blogger who keeps it, asking more about the project. The author kindly wrote back, and with permission, we post the self-description:
This is my first time ever keeping a political blog which is quite exciting. As far as a political identity, I think that it is fairly safe to say that I do not consider myself a part of either party.
I am a vehement civil libertarian. I am against most kinds of war and on my blog will advocate for a more tempered, diplomatic, and humanitarian foreign policy than the current one.
As far as economic issues go, I support tax cuts, but also am able to recognize the fact that the government needs money to carry out its functions. I also believe that encouraging small businesses is essential to our economy and that the innovation that oftentimes comes out of entrepreneurship has been the lifeblood of our political and economic past as a country.
On environmental issues, I think that we should move quickly to address global warming and do all we can to have a clean environment. I think that we should do our best to develop and implement new sources of energy, like hyrdogen and nuclear energy in order to create a lasting environment for future generations. . . .
. . .I plan to highlight many political/scientific issues on my blog, including my support for stem cell research, the need for further funding of the NIH, NSF, and NASA, as well as topical science issues like the particle accelerator at CERN among others.
Welcome to Blogisota. A science blogger for the First.
