Gee, was it something Myron Schober said in Rushford is now Pawlenty’s Katrina? Or just Sargeant Congressman Walz barking an order writing a letter? Whatever the reason, negotiations have yield a special session, the Strib reports:
Gov. Tim Pawlenty on Monday called a special session of the Legislature to pass a flood relief package.
Legislators will convene at 5 p.m. Tuesday.Heavy rains deluged the southeastern corner of Minnesota three weeks ago, causing flash flooding that killed seven and left behind millions of dollars in damage. Seven Minnesota counties are federal disaster areas, but money from Washington will cover only a portion of the recovery costs.
Pawlenty and lawmakers have bickered over how to structure the session and when to hold it, growing increasingly pointed in their letters and public statements about who is to blame for the delay.
Senate Majority Leader Larry Pogemiller, DFL-Minneapolis, sent off the latest letter Monday morning. He promised the session would deal exclusively with the flood aid but questioned Pawlenty's approach so far.
"Governor, let us have a one-day, limited agenda (flood relief in southeast Minnesota only) special session. No surprises. No excuses. No delays," Pogemiller wrote. "Please call the session."
Oh, good. 'CCO was making it sound as if the Dems had totally caved to Dictator Short Pants.
