We're members of the Minnesota Farmers Union, so we were please to read that Congressman Walz had received the 2007 Golden Triangle Award from the National Farmers Union:
National Farmers Union announced today the 2007 NFU Golden Triangle Award recipients, the organization’s highest honor for government service. The award is given annually to members of Congress who have demonstrated outstanding leadership on issues affecting family farmers, ranchers and rural communities.
“We are pleased to recognize these hard-working members for their continued leadership and steadfast support of issues affecting family farmers, ranchers and consumers,” NFU President Tom Buis said. “These men and women are true advocates for those who live, work and raise their families in rural America. I thank them for their leadership.”
Recipients this year were chosen for their leadership on a variety of issues, not limited to but including; support for a farm bill that addresses the challenges and opportunities in rural America, implementing mandatory country-of-origin labeling (COOL), the promotion and production of fuels from the farm, protecting the nation’s food supply, and support for emergency weather-related disaster assistance. The awards will be presented to recipients during the organization’s annual legislative fly-in; more than 200 family farmers and ranchers have traveled to Washington to meet directly with lawmakers this week.
According to the Minnesota Farmers Union's website, members from the First in DC this week include Trevor and Vicki Jensen, Owatonna, and Merlyn Hubin, Westbrook. MFU President Doug Peterson, Legislative Director Thom Petersen, and Communications Director Katie Pass are also in DC.
