In Southwestern Minnesota, water is precious. Often that which is avialable in wells smells like rotten eggs. To get adequate and potable water, the area has promoted the Lewis and Clark Water System.
Red Arndt, Chair of the Lewis & Clark Board, writes in a letter published in today's Pipestone Star:
As Congress is nearing completion of the FY08 Budget, I want to thank Congressman Walz for his strong support for the Lewis & Clark Regional Water System, a project that is very important to the economic development and quality of life in southwestern Minnesota.
Lewis & Clark will provide a reliable source of quality drinking water from the Missouri River to 20 cities and rural water systems in the tri-state region, including Lincoln-Pipestone Rural Water System, Rock County Rural Water System, Luverne and Worthington.
From our first meeting with him in Pipestone in February, he has more than backed up his words of support with effective leadership, including taking our case directly to the House leadership. He worked across party and state lines to request $22.3 million for Lewis & Clark in the FY08 Energy and Water Appropriation Bill.
As this bill works its way through Congress and to the President, I thank Congressman Walz in advance for continuing to do everything that he can to secure the resources to keep construction moving forward on this critically needed water project.
