Laura Grossman of the Post Bulletin reports on yesterday's medal ceremony before the vets meeting in Navy corpsman receives medals after 3 years of waiting:
After receiving a medical discharge from the U.S. Navy in December of 2004, Christopher Lee assumed he would one day find a cardboard box filled with medals on his doorstep.
Lee waited months for the medals to surface.
"I sent two requests myself, but somehow either the letters or the medals got lost in the mail," Lee said.
Afraid that he might never receive the medals, he contacted Congressman Tim Walz's office.
Walz presented Lee the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal on Wednesday during a ceremony and veterans forum at American Legion Post 92 in Rochester.
"I knew Congressman Walz had the ability to push the buttons that a petty officer like myself couldn't," said Lee, a petty officer hospital corpsman. . . .
Perhaps the most poignant part of the story is that Lee's father, who served in the Vietnam War, has yet to receive his own medals.
