The Walz campaign sent us a press release about the first quarter fundraising:
Today, Congressman Tim Walz's campaign released its fundraising numbers for the first quarter of 2008. Walz raised $352,000 this quarter, bringing his total amount raised for the 2008 cycle to $1.5 million.
More than 1,200 new donors contributed to Congressman Walz in the first three months of 2008 and 5,300 individual donors have given to his campaign in the 2008 election cycle.
"Congressman Walz continues to build the largest grassroots campaign ever in Southern Minnesota," said Richard Carlbom, Walz's Political Director. "Congressman Walz's commitment to changing the priorities in Washington has resonated with southern Minnesotans. Furthermore, the same old tired attacks from the National Republicans over the last three months have inspired many more to join our efforts. Congressman Walz is proud to have so many new individuals join his grassroots campaign."
Walz finished the first quarter with more than $1 million cash on hand.
In looking at the report itself, we're impressed by this quarter's total dollar amount for small, unitemized individual contributions under $200: Walz received $89042.33 in small contributions. That's more than he received from PACs this quarter; political action committees contributed $82675.00. Total individual contributions were $266092.31.
Party committees added $4277.61. With the exception of two small in-kind service charges by the DCCC ($6.55 and $21.06), the Q1 party money was contributed by First District DFL county units.
We look forward to seeing the reports from the two Republicans competing in the primary.
