My Fox News Twin Cities reports in Pelosi Hears Praise, Concerns From Minnesota Veterans:
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi joined Rep. Tim Walz at the Minneapolis Veterans Affairs Medical Center today for a roundtable discussion with Minnesota vets.
The event hosted by 1st Dist. Congressman Walz raised issues faced by veterans in the state. Vets told Pelosi the care at the Minneapolis VA has been good and the National Guard has done a good job ensuring its veterans get their benefits.
But veterans told Pelosi that servicemen from other military branches have fallen through the cracks, and mentioned the need for financial aid for veterans traveling from outstate to the VA. Walz's district does not have a VA medical center, and most of the veterans there are treated in Minneapolis.
The panel included a range of veterans from the Iraq War to World War II. Pelosi said she will take concerns raised in the discussion back to Washington.
This was a pretty impressive panel that included veterans who are county service officers. Walz and Pelosi met with leaders of service orgainzations as well. We had heard many people in the Guard and MnSCU system praise General Shellito for his leadership in integrating soldiers back into civikian life. In person, his commitment to Minnesota's soldiers was tangible as he spoke. Very impressive leader.
