Walz requests congressional investigation of allegations of Bush admin coverup of vets' suicides

The Walz congressional office has sent out the following statement:

On Monday evening, CBS  broke the news that the VA's mental health director, Dr. Ira Katz has been allegedly covering up information about the actual number of veterans suicides.  Congressman Tim Walz, a member of the House Veterans Affairs Committee, in front of which Dr. Katz testified last year, released the following statement.

"It is imperative that Congress open an investigation immediately into this alleged cover up by the Bush Administration for concealing the truth about the number of suicides and apparent suicide attempts by our veterans especially those coming home from combat in the Iraq war.  We must get all the facts as quickly as possible and then act decisively to prevent more veterans from becoming a part of this disturbing trend."

Rep. Tim Walz is a 24 year veteran of the Army National Guard.  He is the highest ranking enlisted soldier ever to serve in Congress.  Walz sits on the House Veterans Affairs Committee, as well as the HVAC Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations.
