Looks like the Post Bulletin isn't the only one noticing that Brian Davis didn't provide a yes-or-no answer to a straight forward question about the Farm Bill in yesterday's Farmfest congressional forum. PB reporter Matt Stolle reported about the non-answer in Walz faces off with Davis, Day in debate.
Now the DFL is calling attention to what the PB called an "evasion" as well. just in from the state DFL communications office:
During the course of a congressional forum held yesterday at Farmfest 2008, Minnesota Farmers Union President Doug Peterson asked candidates and incumbent representatives in attendance whether or not they voted for, or would have voted for, the final version of the 2007 Farm Bill. Incumbent Representatives Tim Walz and Collin Peterson said yes, as did congressional candidates Dick Day, Steve Sarvi and Elwyn Tinklenberg.
Republican First District Congressional candidate Brian Davis, however, was unwilling or unable to give a straightforward answer, saying that he wasn’t in Congress at the time of the vote and that it passed with such an overwhelming majority that “President Bush couldn’t even veto it.” In the end, Davis did not give a definitive yes-or-no answer.
Minnesota DFL Associate Communications Director Eric Fought released the following statement:
“By dancing around the question of whether or not he would have supported the Farm Bill, Brian Davis showed that he either hasn’t taken the time to learn about the issue or doesn’t think it’s important. In Congress, you have to make the tough decisions and vote. Minnesotans deserve to know: would Brian Davis have supported the Farm Bill, yes or no?
Once again, and as with so many other issues, Brian Davis has demonstrated that he is not ready to serve Minnesota in Congress.”
Davis: No Answer for Minnesota Farmers
Davis unable to provide a straight answer on the Farm Bill.
In a congressional forum held at Farmfest 2008, Brian Davis said he wasn’t able to answer whether or not he would have voted for the bill. “You know, I’ve been asked this question a few times before and I have to tell you this that since I’m not in Congress it’s difficult to give a straight yes-or-no answer because the reality is that it passed with such an overwhelming majority that President Bush couldn’t even veto it.” [Farmfest congressional forum, full transcript available, 8/5/08 ]
