Yes, my sweet Prairie readers, Tim Walz received more votes in the First Congressional District (141,556) than Sarah Palin did in the whole state of Alaska (114,697).
But then, so did Gil Gutknecht (126,486). And Coleen Rowley (116,343) and Patty Wetterling (127,144).
According to the U.S. Census's 2006 American Community Survey, 611,578 people lived in MN-01, while 2007 estimates placed 683,478 people in Alaska. This seems to mean that Minnesota has higher voter turnout. Fewer parties on the ballot probably has something to do with it, too.
And, as the map shows, Alaska is a whole lot bigger.
