Walz Campaign Launches Teachers for Walz
Group to Highlight Walz’s Unique Ability to Fight for America’s Students and Teachers
As students head back to school this week, the Walz campaign launched Teachers for Walz, a group that will highlight Congressman Tim Walz’s experience in the classroom and ability to solve problems confronting today’s teachers and students.
“Tim Walz knows education. He understands what teachers need to create an environment of success for our most valuable resource: our children. It is time for us to move forward in our schools. Tim Walz is proving that he is a leader we need in Washington to do just that,” said Dr. Kit Hawkins, President of the Rochester Education Association.
“I taught alongside Tim Walz. I trusted him to teach my daughter and I trust him to work for our teachers and our students in Washington , D.C. ” said Bob Ihrig, currently a teacher at Mankato West High School . “It’s time to change Washington , DC to get rid of the bureaucracy and focus on what matters: quality education for our students.”
Walz, an active teacher on leave from the Mankato school district, has taught in China , Nebraska , and Mankato West High School in Mankato . He taught Global Geography and Leadership classes and coached football and girls’ basketball. He also took students on annual educational trips to China .
“If our students are going to thrive in the modern global economy, they need teachers that have the resources to prepare them,” Walz said. “To confront the challenges of the future, we need the federal government to support, not hinder, America ’s students and teachers.”
The New York Times reported on Congressman Walz's work as an educator in Congressman, Teacher, Soldier, and He’s Back in Town for a Visit and High School Project on Genocide Was a Portent of Real-Life Events.
