Reading the latest FEC report from Walz's Republican challenger conjures memories of the final two lines of great Stevie Smith's poem:
I was much too far out all my life
And not waving but drowning.
Too far out indeed: the Davis campaign collected $116,591.54 for the reporting period from contributors, including $1813.50 from the candidate himself.
The total includes $82278.04 from individual contributors and $32500.00 from PACs.
For entire quarter (July 1--September 30) the campaign took in $ 335, 989.04, which includes $124,000 which the candidate lent the campaign. That's $221,989.04 in contributions for the quarter, compared to $470,000 for Walz (see Walz's numbers from 8/21/2008 through 9/30/2008 and 7/01/2008 through 8/20/2008)
No wonder we read this at MnPublius:
I’m also told that the MN GOP is diverting resources into the 6th CD in an effort to save Bachmann. This comes at the expense of Brian Davis down in CD 1 (who, one Republican told me, has been “left for dead”) and Erik Paulsen in CD 3. . . .
Walz's committee ended the quarter with $1,082,731.10 cash on hand with no debt, while Davis had $317,748.25, with $128,026.50 in debt.
Not waving, but drowning.

The kitten is much cuter than the candidate.
