We took a break from a birding excursion to the Minnesota River Valley-Swan Lake area area yesterday to drop by a brunch for Congressman Walz's 45th birthday.
Actually, Walz's birthday isn't until April 6th, a date he shares with Congresswoman Bachmann, a fact that caused us to firmly reject astrology.
We caught the congressman and his family leaving the brunch and snapped this family photo of three generations of the Walzes.
Seizing the moment, we asked if Congressman Walz was going to permanently move his birthday back into March rather than share the honors with his media-hound colleague from the Sixth.
Smiling as impishly as a former National Guard command sergeant major and football coach can, Walz said, "Oh no. I always say it's karma."
He paused.
"This keeps the universe balanced," he said, taking his leave with his family.
Reading some of the things Congresswoman Bachmann is saying of late, we suspect he's on to something with that theory, though the god of winning margins has certainly favored Walz in his rural district more in the 2006 and 2008 elections than it smiled on Bachmann's numbers among the more suburban population of the Sixth.
That being the case, we want to wish both representatives a happy birthday and dedicate this tune to Congresswoman Bachmann:
