Update: On Saturday, October 31, Bluestem reported Boo! On Halloween, the Quist for Congress website lives Also of interest to Quist and CD1 watchers: Rightwing values and performance art in MN-01: Mr. Quist and "Mr. Conservative" [end update]
A reliable source says that former Minnesota house member Allen Quist is exploring a bid for endorsement as the Republican candidate in Minnesota's First Congressional district.
Quist, a staunch conservative activist who founded EdWatch with his wife Julie, received the Republican gubernatorial endorsement in 1994, but lost to incumbent governor Arne Carlson in the Republican primary.
According to my source, Quist has been calling Republican BPOU chairs in the First, and delegates to the recent state convention heard a buzz about the idea. According to our source, Quist has told the chairs that the 2008 Republican candidate, Brian Davis, has urged the ultraconservative statesman to get into the race.
Finally, a quistforcongress.com domain name has been registered, according to whois, though no website is yet live.

Update: quist4congress was registered by Julie Quist on October 4.
Quist was unable to come to the phone when Bluestem contacted him on Saturday morning. Neither the phone message nor an email query about the bid sent to his address at Bethany Lutheran College, where he is an adjunct professor, has been returned.
Other potential candidates to run against Congressman Walz, DFL-Mankato, include State Senate Julie Rosen and Lt. Governor Carol Molnau. According the a recent report by Charley Shaw about the former's potential bid in the St. Paul Legal Ledger, Rosen is seen as a moderate. She contributed to State Senate Dick Day's unsuccessful primary challenge to Davis.
Quist's wife, Julie [Morse] Quist, is Congresswoman Michele Bachmann's district director.
Walz campaign manager Richard Carlbom declined to comment on the potential Republican challengers.
"Walz campaign manager Richard Carlbom declined to comment on the potential Republican challengers."
Was that because he was laughing too hard?
