Just a reminder about the Town Hall in Mankato tonight:
Monday, December 7th, 5:30-7pm
South Central College
Conference Center B
1920 Lee Boulevard
North Mankato, MN
Tom Driscoll covered the first Town Hall in Winona for Bluestem in Walz: Decision on Afghanistan strategy is agonizing.
I was curious what those running for the GOP endorsement in the First have had to say about Operation Enduring Freedom lately. Not much of late.
Some historic statements are available. On his "Mr. Conservative" blog, Jim Hagedorn touched on the conduct of the war by former President Bush in a post about something else in 2006:
President Bush’s sober resolve to transfer operations of six strategic U.S. ports from a British-based enterprise to a state-owned company of the United Arab Emirates should baffle no one. Ok, no one except for Arabs who torch cars when “guys” like Ebert and Roeper rate Mohammad’s sexual stuntman cameo in Brokeback Mountain as an uninspiring one-pinky up.
If nothing else, President Bush is consistent. After all, this is the administration that sends U.S. military warriors halfway around the world to hunt fascists in Afghanistan’s caves and perform urban warfare in cesspools like Fallujah, Iraq, yet balks at implementing meaningful strategies to prevent Islamic terrorists from prancing across the Rio Grande, lest members of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce be strained to pony-up market wages for manly work.
That should earn Minn-SIR's Ruthie Hendrycks' undying support, unless Hagedorn was aiming for "Robert Erickson's" standard for satire. However, given that Hagedorn's "successful internet blog" doesn't show up on technorati, while Erickson's videos have attracted tens of thousands of viewers, I have my doubts.
His announcement press release calls for "restructuring foreign entanglements and defunding “nation building" but he took a very different position on Mr. Conservative prior to the invasion of Iraq (Google cache here):
That the United States is the greatest liberator the world has ever known, is a glaring fact to all, except of course the ever dwindling supply of certified liberals and bona fide foes of our Republic. While we are the last best hope for beleaguered masses, liberals never miss a chance to view events through a socialist prism. One that twists America’s light of freedom to reflect Uncle Sam as, at best, the moral equivalent of his enemies.
I have yet to find statements by Quist or Demmer about Operation Enduring Freedom, though in the case of the latter, he must have said something in his bid for GOP endorsement to run against Walz in 2008.
