Over the last few days, I've been focusing one (and his campaign worker) of the three latest candidates who have tossed their hats into the ring in Minnesota's First congressional district. Today, a friend gave me the heads up about a short-lived blog published by Republican contender Jim Engstrand.
The blog decries the loss of freedom with the 2006 election of "tyrannical liberals in public office," while stating Engstrand's belief that theses "internal tyrants" will help finish the Holocaust and launch Imperial Roman-style persecution of Christians.
Engstrand was part of the team at Exposing Balderdash, the blog created and managed by members of Team Draz! and he started his own short-lived blog. Both venues are listed in his blogger profile page, though he never posted on the EB blog. Like Engstrand's blog, the Team Draz blog was short-lived; Engstrand is treasurer for Steve Drazkowski's house campaign committee. A link to Exposing Bladderdash still remains on Draz's campaign website.
It's worth posting Engstrand's entire--and only--entry on Saving the Republic from tyranny and liberalism. The post is from February 2007, while President Bush was still in office, but after the Democrats had taken control of Congress. Engstrand writes in The maiden Voyage:
February 17, 2007
When the first European voyagers ventured into North America they were looking for a land that provided freedom from Tyranny. Later our for fathers had to rise up and push the yoke of taxation from their backs by engaging in the War of Independence in order to preserve what those first voyagers had sought out in the new land.
I believe we as a nation have severely lost that freedom with the last election. One almost gasps at how embolden these tyrannical liberals in public office flaunt the harm they intend to perpetuate onto this beacon of for freedom known as America. I believe that the terrorist cells in this country this week have now been given the signal that it is time to start advancing on the American freedom. I believe you will start seeing more internal incidents that the liberal media will not cover such as the Mall shooting in Utah this week were a Bosnian Muslim went in and just started executing innocent Americans. I believe Israel better get their Nuclear Weaponry ready because the new Hitler in Iran is now coiled and ready and our answer from the internal tyrants is to go and hug the new Hitler and help him finish what Hitler could not and to be "Tolerant" to our internal enemies but to chase Christians out and persecute them like an antiquated immoral Roman society.
Your thoughts????????????
While much of the entire post is injudicious, the second to last sentence is as rabid as it is rambling and run on. Pulled out:
I believe Israel better get their Nuclear Weaponry ready because the new Hitler in Iran is now coiled and ready and our answer from the internal tyrants is to go and hug the new Hitler and help him finish what Hitler could not and to be "Tolerant" to our internal enemies but to chase Christians out and persecute them like an antiquated immoral Roman society.
So Engstrand believed the new congress intended to help Mahmoud Ahmadinejad destroy Israel and to began persecuting Christians in the manner of ancient Roman emperors.
Three years and one president later, Christians still live peacefully in America--and there's little evidence that Congress--" tyrannical liberals in public office" seeks to "help" the Iranian leader finish the Holocaust. These are extreme words. This is a smear.
Moreover, Walz in particular is an absurd target for the rant.
Incumbent Congressman Walz wrote his masters thesis on teaching genocide studies. Ten days after the death of Stephen Feinstein, the director of the Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies at the University of Minnesota, Walz entered these words in the Congressional Record:
. . .To end genocide, [Feinstein] once said, ‘‘we must study it and understand how it works against what we call ‘civilization’,’’ if possible to develop an ‘‘early warning system’’ to prevent future genocides.
Feinstein was known around the world as an advocate for Holocaust survivors and genocide education, and in particular, for his expertise on artistic expression and genocide. In addition to his CHGS responsibilities and activities, he served as an art consultant and guest curator for numerous museums, universities and art galleries in Minnesota, Florida, New York and Washington, D.C.
‘‘Above all else,’’ said his colleague Eric Weitz, ‘‘Stephen Feinstein was a great humanitarian, someone with a profound belief in the value of research and education, a person who truly believed that if we had just one more lecture about Darfur, ran one more outreach session with teachers on the Armenian Genocide, taught one more course on the Holocaust and genocides, it really could make a difference and the world would be a better place for all of us.’’
NPR reported on an episode early in Walz's teaching career in which his students decided that the most likely place for the next genocide was Rwanda--then watched in horror as their predictions came true not long after. The New York Times later picked up the story.
Jim Engstrand has moved into the First Congressional district to run against this man. Does Engstrand still believe Congress plans to throw Christians to the lions?
