Laura Brod announced her retirement last week. The LeCenter Leader reports in Brod won't run again:
“I’m not sure who’s jumping in right now,” Brod said. “I’m sure you’ll be hearing some names come up in the next couple of weeks.”
Glencoe area insurance agent, social board member, and ultra-conservative gadly Glenn Gruenhagen has filed a campaign committee with the Campaign Finance Board.
The McLeod County Chronicle reports:
Although Gruenhagen said his style may be a little irritating, "When it comes to government, it needs a little irritation once in awhile. Send me down there (St. Paul), and I'll irritate them a little bit."
The DFL endorsed candidate is popular Montgomery mayor Mick McGuire.
In 26A, conservative blogger and Steele County Chair Dave Thul seeks Republican backing in House race, the Owatonna People's Press reports. His motive for running? The district needs a partisan hack:
“We love to talk conservative versus liberal. Kory isn’t a bad guy by any stretch of the imagination,” Thul said Wednesday. “I was glad to see him vote against the huge tax increase in the House yesterday. But in my opinion, he’s not responding to what people are asking for: To hold the budget down and cut taxes. Kory represents us very moderately — he’s not a radical or extremist — but he’s not doing enough to help the people of the district.”
Bluestem will let readers know about additional candidates as they announce or file committees--and who gets the Republican endorsement in both races, irritating or not.
In the meantime, I don't anticipate McGuire or Kath breaking out in nervous hives from the prospect of facing either of these two.
