Blogger and former Steele County GOP chair Dave Thul has been endorsed by HD26A Republican to challenge freshman Democratic legislator Kory Kath, Thul notes on his blog Foreign and Domestic.
The Owatonna People's Press has more in GOP endorses candidate:
In Thul, the party finally found a contender to face off against incumbent DFLer Kory Kath. Pofahl, 26, was chosen as the party’s preferred candidate during the first endorsing convention on March 6. However, Pofahl bowed out on May 10, citing “personal commitments.” Pofahl’s announcement presented his party with a major stumbling block: Republicans in Steele and Waseca counties suddenly found themselves without a candidate with just two weeks before the June 1 filing deadline. . . .
. . .Thul came out swinging.
“Since my son Alex was born almost 10 years ago, there have been four separate times that the Legislature has refused to grant Minnesotans even a chance to vote on a constitutional amendment to protect marriage,” Thul said. “Since my daughter Cassie was born seven years ago, the democratic Legislature has tried three times to legally allow 16-year-old girls to have abortions without even telling their parents. This is not the Minnesota I want my kids to grow up in.”
The OPP has posted video of Thul here. Thul notes that he organized the Owatonna Tea Parties in 2009 and 2010. While 200 attended the first event, only 48 attended the one this year.
Thul ran for Owatonna City Council in 2009. The OPP reports:
In July 2009, he decided to go the non-partisan route and run for city government. He was one of six candidates vying for the spot then occupied by Council Member at Large Jeff Falk. The election turned out to be a close race between victor Raymond Truelson and homebuilder Kurt Welker, each of whom garnered about 34 percent of the vote, though Truelson came out ahead by a hair. Thul came in second to last, with just 179 votes or 6 percent of the electorate.
For earlier coverage of Thul's bid, see Bluestem's post, "A little irritation": two new Republican candidates itching to run in House Districts 25A and 26A.I imagine friend and foe will be combing through Thul's blog for nuggets and wit and wisdom, such as it is.
