Like many rural Minnesotans, I would not have been surprised to see the Minnesota Farm Bureau Federation PAC endorse Randy Demmer this year.
Surprisingly this has failed to come to pass, and it must be a huge blow to the Hayfield Republican's congressional race.
Demmer's failure to secure the Farm Bureau's federal PAC endorsement is the equivalent of Walz not securing labor's nod (which, for the record, he has wholeheartedly). The Farm Bureau traditionally leans --though not exclusively--toward endorsing Republicans (only "Blue Dog Democrat" House Ag Chair Collin Peterson received an endorsement this year). Demmer was also a farmer himself for many years.
Walz was endorsed by the Minnesota Farmers Union FARMPAC at FarmFest in August, and was endorsed by the Farmers Union in 2008. While the Farm Bureau did not endorse in this race in 2008, many political hands thought a Demmer endorsement was inevitable.

Demmer really is the weak sister here, isn't he? The Farm Bureau must be wanting to put all its firepower to use in the service of Bachmann, Kline, Paulsen and Emmer, and let Demmer twist in the wind.
