I've been observing in one of three DFL volunteer launch centers in Mankato, and the place feels like the old office on Riverfront Avenue in 2006. Some of the details are the same, including former state Representative Ruth Johnson's red boots.
She swears they're a different pair, having worn out the old pair during the 2008 election.
Reports from across the district are good. From the boiler room at a local hotel, word leaks out that "we are hitting or surpassing all our goals for phones and doors."
A source in the Twin Cities DFL apparatus tells me that "CD1 is rocking." It feels that way.
A delivery person arrives with a pizza ordered for the office by State Representative Paul Thissen, who has been a fxutre in rural Minnesota DFL doorknocks.
The phones are buzzing and doorknocking crews come back in from the field, while others go out. The office is on second and third passes through neighborhoods.
Will all this activity keep Tim Walz in office, while helpin elect a DFL governor? We'll know when the polls close.
