Those who live in rural Minnesota have to know their shit, and those of us with trained noses can distinguish the bloom of cow from hog from chicken from turkey, just as a hunter-trapper knows skunk from fox.
It's a skill that certainly helps a little blogger on the prairie who know elephant dung when she smells it.
Thus, it saddens me that local reporting on Monday didn't get more specific about a truck-train accident near Sleepy Eye.
How could I not click on this headline from KEYC-TV: Train Vs. Manure Truck Accident Near Sleepy Eye:
Brown County authorities say the accident is just west of Sleepy Eye, along Highway 14.
It happened just after 10:00 this morning.
The Brown County Sheriff's Office tells us that a truck hauling manure was hit as it crossed the train track. . . .
Fortunately, the man hauling the manure was able to jump out of his vehicle and avoid serious injury, the Mankato Free Press reported in Man leaps to safety before vehicle hits train:
A truck driver was able to jump to safety Monday morning as his semi slid through a railroad crossing and was struck by a Canadian Pacific train.
. . .Packed snow made the road slippery, so the truck slid into the path of the train when Gitter hit the brakes.
Gitter was able to jump from the cab of the truck before it was hit. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital in Sleepy Eye, where he was treated for injuries and released. . . .
The train was dead-heading empty tanker cars, so nothing was spilled from the train. Still unknown: the aroma.
And that's this week's Brown County news bite. It's not just tasty beer and flood waters down there, folks.
Surely, readers can't expect nothing but reports here about Tony Sutton's latest effluvia?
