Update 3/5: Early this morning, Bluestem posted that Sutton had stomped his little foot in an interview with the Post Bulletin over the debt to Mower County, accusing the county auditor of "blackmail. Read about it in New Madrid Fault moves north; or,Tony Sutton shakes it up in the Rochester Post Bulletin. [end update]
Perhaps Republican Party of Minnesota chair Tony Sutton should quit drafting letters telling Republican legislators what to do and say and pay his bills.
The Austin Herald reports in Auditor-treasurer’s office waiting on GOP to pay recount costs:
The 2010 election isn’t 100 percent complete in Mower County.
Auditor-Treasurer Doug Groh is still waiting for a $2,242 payment from the Republican Party to reimburse his office for collecting and copying of voting data during the governor’s recount.
Groh first sent the bill to the GOP, which ran the recount for Tom Emmer, on Nov. 24. At first, Groh said the GOP lost the bill, and officials assured Groh they would send it.
Groh said officials have promised to send the payment, but it never comes.
“It’s now March, and I don’t know what kind of difficulties they’re having,”
Groh said. “I just know I’d like to get it paid and get it behind us.”
At one point, Groh said he was told the GOP didn’t have available funds. However, state GOP officials denied having financial trouble last year. . . .
The paper notes that the DFL paid Mower County back in early December. Groh is clearly fed-up:
“I expect a major party like the republicans would have funds available to make payments,” Groh said.
MPR reports that Minnesota House Speaker Kurt Zeller says "Sutton ain't my boss." And he was turned out to pasture in the green fields of political consulting after running the Baja Sol restaurant chain down to bare bones.
Perhaps Bridget Sutton can quit distracting her husband with liberal blog posts say about him:
He doesn't read the blogs himself, he said. But he can't get his wife to stop. Apparently, he said, the newest controversy has led to bloggers harping on two old themes.
"I've discovered, because of the bloggers, that I've got a weight problem, and the second thing is I'm a puppet master, running the entire operation."He admits to the former but scoffs at the latter.
While Mr. Sutton's girth is of no concern to Bluestem, here's hoping that he'll pull a few strings and pay Mower County.
