Yesterday, the Republican Party of Minnesota re-elected failed burrito baron Tony Sutton chair.
Yesterday, the Mankato Free Press gave the Republican Party of Minnesota a big "Thumbs Down" in a short editorial. Sutton is mentioned:
Thumbs down ....To the state Republican Party for failing to pay bills it owes to counties.[link added]
When the GOP pushed for a recount in the governor’s race, it asked counties to supply voting information. It sent terse letters to counties threatening legal action if they didn’t comply immediately. County employees did the work, provided the information to the party and billed them, as required by law, for the time spent.
Nicollet County — which is owed $1,376 — is one of many that hasn’t been paid. For nearly six months county officials have sent bills to the state party; they not only haven’t been paid, but GOP officials haven’t acknowledged them.
Republican Party Chairman Tony Sutton told The Free Press they are trying to raise money to pay the bills, but also claimed they hadn’t seen an invoice from Nicollet County.
Stiffing taxpayers for bills is particularly hypocritical coming from the party that continually calls for government to be fiscally responsible, not spend more than it has and to treat its budget like families do.
The state GOP knew how much it was going to owe counties. It should have saved enough to pay its bills, or it should borrow the money and pay its bills — just like responsible families do.
Last week, Sutton told the Star Tribune that he now hopes to be paid as chair, which has been a volunteer position until now. Sutton left his position as CEO of Baja Sol and started his own public affairs firm earlier this year.
Last week, the Star Tribune reported that a Watchdog group calls on GOP's Tony Sutton to release client list. it's always something at Sutton Place.
