In a way, I envy the editorial board of the Winona Daily News.
Situated on the edge of Steve Drazkowski's district, the editors can turn to The Draz for editorial fodder. Today's commentary (about the now slumbering proposal to cut down black walnut trees in state parks), Drazkowski is barking up the wrong tree, notes:
For now, Drazkowski's legislation is right where it should be - dead. . . .
Let's be clear: The state doesn't have $5 billion of hardwood hiding in state parks. So chopping down all the big, pretty, valuable trees doesn't solve the budget woes.
And the people standing against Drazkowski's bill aren't just tree-hugging, dirt worshipping liberal bureaucrats who feel fuzzy about firs.
You see, the state already supports a generous share of logging.
That's what state-run forests are for. . .
Read the whole, sassy thing. The hicksters in Winona are seeing the forest for the trees.
