Pop some corn and grab your cherry turnovers. Mike Parry's defenders are carrying on about a letter that Parry mentioned, but Governor Dayton's office distributed.
Funny that Mike and his minions aren't talking about the specific language that one veterans service group leader requested in the conference report--and a resolution he wanted Republican leaders to introduct in the legislature. All Parry and Lanning had to do is agree.
Instead, Parry ranted about Dayton's anger, rather than the agreement the vets leader requested.
The Minnesota Progressive Project has posted a transcription of the request by the state commander of the American Legion, along with an image of the letter itself in GOPer Parry Goes For The Cherry Picking.
The money shot:
Parry starts out taking the credit and praise the Commander gave; then ignores the part about General Shellito's testimony and goes for an insult: "that's not leadership!"
Parry and Lanning should man up and agree to the changed language requested in the letter, and introduce the resolution as well.
Dayton's letter [PDF 5 9 11 Parry Lanning letter here] is clear in asking for agreement on this. Parry, instead, chose to bluster about tone and emotion.
This is a standard bush-league negotiation strategy: switching from substance to distractions about the other party's emotions. But Parry himself has made his own emotional outbursts the focus of coverage. Let's hope that he can control himself and get down to deliberations.
