From the first report by KEYC -TV FOX last December 3, Bluestem has monitored the ongoing story of recount bills owed to Minnesota's counties by failed burrito baron and MNGOP state chair Tony Sutton.
While the attention of late has centered on southeast Minnesota, now a report comes from the west central region, via the Redwood Falls Gazette.
In GOP owes county money from recount, Gazette editor Tony Krause reports:
On the day after the election, the county auditors of the state began receiving requests for copies from the campaigns of both Mark Dayton and Tom Emmer.“We were asked to copy everything from the election,” said Jean Price, Redwood County auditor-treasurer. “It took a long time.”In addition to making the copies, the work also included redacting all of the private information, which only added hours to the work being requested.Price said the e-mails she received from the Republican Party leadership became “nasty” as they continued to place pressure on her office to get the work done. . . .To this day, the county has not been paid.
According to Price, the campaign which requested the copies owes Redwood County $700 for the work.In April, Steve Collins, Redwood County attorney sent a letter to the Republican Party requesting the funds be paid to the county.. . .Minnesota Republican chair Tony Sutton has officially gone on record as stating the GOP plans to pay back all of the money that is due, which, according to a report in the West Central Tribune in-cludes 20 counties and about $20,000.A Republican legislator from Red Wing had offered a suggestion members of the Republican delegation offer some funds to help cover the costs.Price said she does not know if Redwood County is among the 30 counties Sutton mentioned, but said now that she knows there are plans in place to pay back what it is due she is going to pursue the county’s fair share of that funding.
Read the whole article at the Gazette. While $700 isn't an enormous amount of money to a party that owes $500,000 while retaining a lot of employees, it's more a matter of fairness, Bluestem believes along with Senator Howe.
