Wednesday's perfect swarm of protest in Wayzata is making news, along with Speaker Boehner's golf score for the fundraiser for Minnesota's Republican congressional delegation.
Sportswriter Charley Walters at the Pioneer Press reports:
That was U.S. Speaker of the House of Representatives John Boehner golfing Wednesday at Wayzata Country Club. Boehner shot a 4-over-par 76 from the middle tees.
Spring Hill Golf Course, the exclusive club listed on the original invitation that Minnesota Public Radio obtained for the Republican fundraiser, is a longer course, so perhaps the Speaker should be happy that he ended up at a different club after word of coming protests got out.
The protests aced it in the media, acing the longest shot in the course as the lead example illustrating a late Friday afternoon headline in the Hill, Republicans face Tea Party-style protests from liberal, labor groups:
Hundreds of people showed up at the Wayzata Golf Club in Wayzata, Minnesota, Friday to protest a fundraiser for Reps. Chip Cravaack (R-Minn.) and Erik Paulsen (R-Minn.), which was attended by House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio).
Holding signs that blared “Jobs, not cuts!” and “People before profits”, the protesters, some wearing labor tee shirts, sought to put a hot spotlight on the exclusive event, which charged donors up to $10,000 to play a round of golf with the lawmakers.
Cravaack, who does not play golf, attended the fundraising lunch but stayed off the links.
Dozens of constituents held a rally in Duluth earlier this month to protest Cravaak’s refusal to hold a town-hall meeting in that part of his district, which is a Democratic stronghold.
Well-played!
